The next-gen iPhone is highly rumored to be coming out at the World Wide Developer Convention on June 9th. Here are the some big supporting rumors that you probably have already heard:

Internal memo from UK carrier O2 states:

“Due to the highly successful sales of the Apple 8GB iPhone, supply chains have run out of stock and will not be replenishing stock of this product as it has now gone to end of life.”

CEO of AT&T, Randall Stephenson confirmed a 2008 ship date of a 3G iPhone.

Zibri from ZiPhone spotted some code in the new iPhone 2.0 beta software that suggests Apple will use the Infineon 3G chipset.

Many Apple stores around the world are running out of iPhones.

Walt Mossberg stated that their would be a new iPhone in 60 days on April 6th (he then took it back saying he has no idea when it will happen).

Steve Jobs said it himself that there will be a 3G iPhone some day.

With all these rumors in mind there is really no way that you can deny that the 3G iPhone will be released sooner or later. Now, the only thing to speculate is the details.

I belive that since the iPhone did so well and had the highest customer satisfaction rate out of any Apple product, there will not be many major changes. The biggest change of course will be 3G. The rest will be minor.

I think the design will change. The reason I think that is because the aluminum and bezel scratch way to much. Apple must go for a new design that eliminates the easy scratches of the back and sides of the phone. I think something like this:

This not only looks much better than the aluminum look, but gets rid of the possibility of scratches. As for the front of the iPhone, I don’t think anything will change.

Apple will also include true GPS. I consider this a minor change because it only involves one app, maps.app, while 3G affects any app trying to reach the internet. True GPS is so easily accessibly, that is has already been done with an external chip:

All that apple has to do is add this chip and make sure maps.app can recognize it and use it. The only disadvantage is that it makes the iPhone a little be bulkier. At the same time, it is too easy to leave out.

Storage may change, but I’m not sure. The only possibility is the storage by two. This means the base product would be 16Gb and the level up would be 32GB. Either this will happen, or nothing will change with storage.

Along with all of this, iPhone firmware 2.0 will be released and people will be able to download apps from the app store. All of this makes the next-gen iPhone, which will still be called an “iPhone.”

One of my favorite sites for checking new installer apps is called InstallerApps.com. Recently the author did a great post on how to save your battery life. This article is specific toward iPods, but they can also be very helpful to iPhone users.

For me the three biggest tips are Less Email Addresses, Turn WiFi Off and Turn SSH Off. The reasons I think these are the three biggest is because they all have to do witch checking things while it is in sleep mode. It is always checking for wifi, always ready for SSH and always checking your e-mail. The less you can make it do these things, the better.

Here is the full 10 Ways to Increase your Battery Life by Installer Apps

1) Plug in your jailed iPhone or iPod Touch on the latest firmware (1.1.4). If you have an iPhone, it should be activated at this time.

2) Download the latest version of ZiPhone (3.0) for Windows or Mac from http://www.downloadziphone.org/

3) Open ZiPhone

4) You may wither leave iTunes open or close it. If you choose to close it, also close iTunes Helper in Activity Monitor so it does not reopen when you are jailbreaking. You may also leave iTunes open while jailbreaking, but remember not to touch it until the jailbreaking is done.

5) In ZiPhone, press the advanced tab. Then check off “Jailbreak (iPhone or iTouch).” Make sure nothing else is checked. Then click “Start Advanced Process.” This method will work with either the iPod Touch or iPhone, but there are alternative buttons on the main page. For the iPhone specifically, click “jailbreak” under iPhone. For the iPod Touch, click “Jailbreak & Activate” under iPhone/iPod Touch.

6) Watch Ziphone do its work. You will see a bunch of code running down your iPod or iPhone. This is exactly what is supposed to happen so just wait and don’t touch anything. You will also see near the end (about 30 seconds) the Zorro image. This is ZiPhone installing Installer, BSD Subsytem and Open SSH. These apps are essential for installing many other apps on your iPhone or iPod Touch.

7) When it is done, your iPod or iPhone will reboot, it will say that you can edit the home screen and you will see that beautiful installer icon. You might want to unplug and plug it back in so that iTunes will recognize it.

8| Celebrate!

Heres a video tutorial:

The DLO Jam Jacket skin for my iPhone expired a few days ago. The silicone started to rip in a few places such as the near the volume buttons and edges of the screen. It got to the point where it was just too annoying to use and therefor, I needed a new case. I decided to get a similar, yet more expensive case called the iSkin Revo. iSkin is known for making the best cases for all things Apple so I thought I’d give them a try.

The Revo comes with the silicone case itself, a visor screen protector, a protective privacy film, and a port protector. The port protector is a small silicone piece that plugged into your dock connector like this:

It is made to keep lint out of the port, but I have never had a problem with that in my past iPods. I also charge my iPhone almost everyday and It’s really annoying to have to remove this little piece every-time. This is why I am either not going to use it or throw it away.

I also will not be using the privacy screen protector since I already have a screen protector on my iPhone. This film is made for men and women who want some privacy while using there iPhones. Once you have applied the film, the screen will appear black except when you are looking at it head on. It will also protect the screen from scratched and produce less finger prints.

The silicone case is what matters the most. While every Revo has a black outside layer, the parts protecting the top and bottom part of the screen come in Light Blue, Yellow, Pink, Black, Dark Blue, and Red. I was considering getting the blue one, but decided to get all black because of the simplicity.

Putting on the Revo was a little bit harder than I expected. It fits very tightly on your iPhone, which is a good thing because this means it is also hard to get off. It is a little bit bulkier than my old DLO Jam Jacket, but this also means it has more protective layering.

The texture of the silicone is different in specific spots. The back is very smooth with no real texture. The sides however are a little rougher, making it feel safe in your hand. It is not sticky unlike most silicone cases. I used to have to dig into my pocket, but now my iPhone comes out nice and easy. At the same time, it will not slide or slip on tables or glass.

iSkin claims that the silicone is a special material that is antimicrobial. Here is the exact words: “The iSkin revo features a premium silicone material with a built-in antimicrobial product protection to inhibit the growth of odor and stain causing bacteria on the product - making it the first ever silicone protector to offer this level of protection.” This is nice, but… who cares!

The Revo is really good at keeping dust and lint out of your iPhone. The only openings are the screen, the speakers and the camera. The volume buttons, headphone jack and sleep/wake button are all covered up by silicone. If you want to put headphones in, just lift of up seal like this:

The visor is a very unique product. It is very well thought out and fits very neatly on the front and back of the iPhone. This is something I am really not sure about. I am going to try it and see if it is a burden to put on and off, but as of now, it seems okay. I like to know that my iPhone’s screen is full protected even with a screen protector and this visor assures me of that.

Overall, I love this case. It is an extremely well planned design and fits nicely with your iPhone. It is almost like a hard case made out of silicone. I feel very protected and I am not afraid of dropping my iPhone accidentally. The Revo is expensive at $40, but is well worth the money. If you like silicone cases, get this case.
